MSX2k - Standalone demo?

Hi!

Anyone ever managed to install Exchange2000 on a Win2k Standalone-Server? How?

It requires Active Directory, but how to set up Active Directory on a Standalone-Server???

I would need it to demonstrate the VPW-Exchange SPI...

Markus

Re: MSX2k - Standalone demo?

Hello Markus,

Unfortunately, you cannot install Exchange 2000 (or Exchange 5.5 for that matter) without a domain structure. Exchange has to be in a domain.

To promote your standalone W2K server to a domain controller (which will give you Active Directory), you can run the dcpromo command. Please don't do this though without some planning because you will also be required to configure DNS on the first domain controller.

Microsoft's Technical Library is a good place to start. Go to this URL and then click on Planning and Deployment for step-by-step guides, white papers, etc.
