problems with SBS console after upgrading to SBS 4.5

Hi all,

After upgrading from SBS ver. 4.0 to 4.5, the SBS console application does not work.

To mee it looks like ASP has malfuntioned, but I cannot find out how to reinstall it.

Anyone has experienced this?

Thanks

Do you have at least 2GB of free space on hard disk? See MS KB Q184312.

If you launch IE can you access http://localhost. If not check Q241582.

Look at Q222531 "Troubleshooting SBS Console Problems".

I had the same problem when I upgraded but it was a long time ago. Can't remember what fixed it. Good luck!
Make a great day!

Re: problems with SBS console after upgrading to SBS 4.5

Hi again,

I checked the article you mentioned, thanks for the tip :)

Only prop is that it requires more then two MB, not GB - i do have that...

I tried the other options, and havn't been able to dig anything up from the MS knowledge base...

So pls.. anyone help

Re: problems with SBS console after upgrading to SBS 4.5

Disk space is tricky - for my part _ would reccomend having 500mb free on any given filesystem. As a practical matter on the old DOS environent 10MB free was necessary, on windows 3.1, 50MB was desirable (and clean your SWAP directory regularly.)

Since NTFS is a logging file system it actually needs free space that DOS and Windows didn't need - for its transaction logs. Some, but not much.

Since NT has a jillion different processes running around, there is a probability that things are using your c:/temp area for temporary storage.

Of course the printer spooler (by default) would use the C: drive too.

If you don't have 100mb of free space on a non-printer server c: drive you are asking for trouble now days. I consider 500mb reasonable (if not always practical.)

I have no clue about SBS.

Have you tried bouncing the box?
Omniback and NT problems? double check name resolution, DNS/HOSTS...

Re: problems with SBS console after upgrading to SBS 4.5

Hi again,

Still I'm having the problem, I did try to bounce the box several times, and the free amount of disc on sys volume is > 500 meg.

I have an idea that the error is caused, because there is something wrong with the asp installation under IIS - but it's only a gut feeling...

Do anyone know how to reinstall ASP?

Re: problems with SBS console after upgrading to SBS 4.5

Hello,

I think the SBS console is an mmc file called sbs.msc. I think 4.0 used an .asp page and they changed it at 4.5. You can try locating that file on your SBS CD's and then copying it over but it sounds like you may need to reinstall the whole console application. If you need to reinstall the console and its components, here are the steps to follow:

- Run sbssetup.exe /reinstall from the SBS media Disc 3 to force reinstallation of the console and all components.

- After reinstalling the console you must recreate the Administrator profile in order for the Fax Service to send fax notifications.

If that doesn't work, please post more information. Are you getting an error message when trying to access the console? What makes you suspect an asp page may be the cause of the problem?

Best regards,
