samsung 19" syncmaster tft-lcd monitor
15 inch > resolution 1024x768
17 1280x1024
18 1280x1024
21 1600x1200
24 1920x1200
i am confused. does this mean that the ideal resolution for my 19(18") screen is 1280
x1024? when i do that the icons are barely visible and it is unsettling.Since i am not bill gates this stuff is daunting.why should i have to get involved in all this technical crap when all i want is a nice big, clear screen?

Re: samsung 19" syncmaster tft-lcd monitor
All LCD displays are designed function optimally at a particular resolution (different for each monitor). Any attempt to use the monitor at other than the optimal resolution typically results in some sacrifice in terms of the quality of the image displayed. If the optimal resolution doesn't satisfy you for some reason you, as the owner, can change the resolution and deal with the quality issues, if any, that surface. If you're dissatisfied with the quality, you can take it up with the manufacturer. Perhaps they have another product that would suit you better.
I am troubled by your reference to your monitor as 19"(18"). That kind of designation is usually reserved for CRT monitors. If you are referring to a CRT monitor, ignore everything I said above. It only pertains to LCD monitors which if advertised as 19", then they are 19", rather than 18". Hope some of this makes sense. If not, come on back and we'll try again.

Re: samsung 19" syncmaster tft-lcd monitor
user manual that samsung provides has no
model 192N which is the number printed on the
front of my monitor.
model no.: 192N
model code: GH19ASBB
In the user manual there is no mention of 19" in the section (7) Resolution Setting as you will note above. so did samsung leave this
monitor out; is an 18 really a 19 or what?
the koreans are a strange lot but their monitors are nice. i hope this makes more sense that it seems to me. thanks.

Re: samsung 19" syncmaster tft-lcd monitor
Samsung doesn't offer a manual online either for the 192N. You may want to contact them directly (www.samsung.com). Here's a link to the 'products' section of their website for the 192N. The optimal (and maximum) resolution is 1280x1024. I suggest you set the resolution the way it works best for you (I like 1024x768) and see how it looks (video games stress the video capabilities the most). If it looks satisfactory, you're set. If not, contact Samsung and see what they're willing to do: http://www.samsungusa.com/cgi-bin/nabc/info/b2c_info_contact_us_sea.jsp?eUser
