Windows XP 100% CPU Usage, Cannot find pctspk.exe

I've this question before(I have windows XP and for some reason it keeps going up to 100% CPU Usage in the task manager, this makes my computer really slow.
Is this a bug in XP and can it be fixed?) and Christopher Slater-Walke told me that the file pctspk.exe was causing the problem and to rename it to solve.
Well, I cannot find this file. I searched all files and folders in My Computer and if I have this file what do I rename it?

Please Help?

Have you done a ctrl-alt-del and started the task manager to see what is using the cpu?

Click on processes and the cpu column.

Let us know what is using the time.

Re: Windows XP 100% CPU Usage, Cannot find pctspk.exe

I've just been monitoring it while i've been surfin the net and i noticed that "System Idle Process" was the only high one on 98 (cpu usage was around 15%) but just now its gone dodgy again and "System Idle Process" is now on 00 and "explorer.exe" is on 99. making the cpu usage 100% so my comp. is really slow!!

After trying various solutions,
i suceeded by changing the following registry entry:
hkey_local_machine\software\microsoft\windows current version\run
change pctvoice to be
xpctspk.exe

You may click on task manager - under process - right click - set the process level.By default, it should be set Normal

Re: Windows XP 100% CPU Usage, Cannot find pctspk.exe

I have found the same promblem on my comp' as well, after reading the replies here I went back to work. Next day I just eneded the process in the Task Manager, and then noticed that all this programme seems to is: play the "modem dial up noises" through the PC speakers, so I guess thats what the name stands for now, PCToSPeaKers.
A bit late for help now I guess, but maybe good info for people like me that have only just found this site. good luck all.

Re: Windows XP 100% CPU Usage, Cannot find pctspk.exe

pctspk.exe was causing 99% system usage.

This happend to me on a (Dell) notebook when upgrading from win2k to XP. I went to windows update and there was a driver update for the modem which I installed and rebooted an it no longer maxed out my resources.
