Is it possible to assign virtual ports on the HP Blade Servers to the physical port on the catalyst HP 3020 switch?
Example:
I want Virtual port 1 (assigned to server1) to send network traffic to physical port 17 (on 3020 switch)
I want Virtual port 2 (assigned to server2) to only send network traffic to physical port 18 (on 3020 switch)
Then for the last 14 servers I want to send them over a 6 GB trunk. Assigning all the remaining servers to send network traffic over this particular network trunk (physical ports 19-24). I want to ensure that Servers 1&2 are not using this trunk.
Are any of these examples possible?
Thanks,
-Erik

Re: Blade Server Port Mapping on switch
I plan to keep all servers in the same vlan for this enclosure unfortunatly.
Is virtual connect that you are talking about just a concept or an application?
Thanks,
Erik

SolutionFirst.... they are not virtual ports - they are physical ports. And this then becomes a Cisco question nothing to do with the fact they are blades... ask a Cisco certified person - they will be better able to answer the question. Just tell them its a 2950 equivalent with 16 ports connected to servers and 8 uplink ports and ask exactly the same question. But I think they would answer VLANs as well.
As for virtual connect. Its a replacement piece of hardware to the Cisco 3020 - costs about the same. It can create virtual connections between physical ports - designed to do exactly what you want to do.
