Re: C7000 blade system problem

I now now have 2 power supplys connected - the blades connected are no longer flashing red lights - so that problem is fixed

But still no data from the laptop port

I have done everything you have said but that port is not sending anything to 3 different coumputers that i have tried. (2 different laptops and my desktop)

I have tries static ip, the ip's and gateways you specified. I have tried so many configurations i am sure it must be something else.

Perhaps if a make a small video showing exactly what i am doing would you have a look at it Tornsten.

Re: C7000 blade system problem

If the OA network settings are unknown, the first step would be to connect the OA/iLO port to a network with a DHCP server. You would then look at the DHCP server logs to see if it is requesting an address.  If the OA is set to use a static address the only way to access the OA to discover configuration settings would be over the serial port with a null modem cable.

Re: C7000 blade system problem

Decided to use ipconfig/all repeatadily as the m,achine boots.

the ip address appears as the server is booting - it came up in ipconfig/all  as 169.254.183.186. It is the first time I have seen it.

but as soon as the machine has booted and the fans slow down the ip is nonger displayed. Ipconfig/all just stops reporting the IP

When i try to browse to it  the browser reports 'website found, waiting for reply'

The server must be setup to not transmit anything on the AO port

The only way to get this working is to buy a replacement insight LCD display so I can configure the port. Will see if I can find one on ebay.

it is what i should of done in the frst place. When i bought this machine the lcd was removed.

The wires were snipped. It looks like whoever was the previous owner purposely removed the lcd. Because without it there is no way to access the server

Would that seem right to you Tornsten?

Re: C7000 blade system problem

The 169.x.x.x is know as the link local address space an OS may assign when it cannot access a DHCP server.  Your options are to buy a new LCD panel, or use a serial null modem cable between a pc and the OA module. The null modem cable is a much cheaper solution to figure out if you have purchased a functional system

Re: C7000 blade system problem

get the serial null modem cable, you'll need it anyway to get the password.

Hope this helps!

Re: C7000 blade system problem

Hi Torsten.

I made the null modem cable from the pinout picture you sent me and have sucesfully connected to the OA module

I used the program putty

see enclosed picture  --------------->

I tried the username and  password under the modult but cant get access

I read about reseting it pressing F but not sure what I am supposed to to from here.

Re: C7000 blade system problem

I did it!!

I followed the tutorial and reset the OA password. It reset the password to the one printed under the module

When i entered it I got access to the module within putty

weh hey!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I typed in help and got a load of available commands

'enable http' i think is the one i need.

Re: C7000 blade system problem

I have reset the passwords on bots OA's.

I can log into them both with the serial cable

But i STILL CANT LOG INTO THEM FROM THE WEB BROWSER!!!!!!!!!   This is madness.

There is still no IP from the interlink

Re: C7000 blade system problem

now you need to connect to the LAN port of the active OA. I wrote at the beginning how to set the IP address.

Hope this helps!

Re: C7000 blade system problem

I finally did it Tornsten

I have full access to the onboard administrator - jesus that was a nightmare

Did a 'set factory' on one of the OA's - Left the other out of the machine

It reset everything

Then I had to activate dhcp on th server, activate https

set my desktop to a static ip. Created a new user for myself with a password.

and it finally came up in the browser - the correct log in screen to the onboard administrator

Types in the default username and password  and BANG - i got into the thing at last

Now I can see what is actually in the machine

you were correct bl406 gen 1 blades.

Twin xeon 3 ghz cpu, 4 gig ram etc etc

Lots of errors and warnings but I can take it from here.

jesus I have to learn a whole lot of stuff to set this up. The blades were al;ready out of the machine when i bought it , and it seems they were all ment to be in certain places - i will just have to re-do the i/o settings etc etc

But I am glad to say that I now have assess. It wasnt the leads, my desktop settings......... it was how the OA was set up by the looks of it.

once i did the 'set factory' everything started to work as you described.

Now i have to go off and learn allot more on how to set this thing up

Thank you Torsten for sticking with me - i was not far from throwing this thing out!!!!

thankful regards
