C7000 - VC - OA - ILO - Compatiblity
Hey guys,
I'm looking for an document, where I can see which OA Version is compatible to the VC Version and which ILO Version is required for this version. After my opinion the VC Version depend on the OA Version, what is with ILO for Blades? Are they independent from the rest?
I didn't found any documents in support.hpe.com.
Background:
We have a lot of serverchassis with different version of VC/OA/ILO on Blade and I would like to to update these different version to the same version datacenterwide.
Thx

Re: C7000 - VC - OA - ILO - Compatiblity
Hey,
thanks for this matrix, that helps.
That means that the ILO Version from the Blades are not important and have no dependendt to the VC/OA Version?
What is the best workflow?
- Upgrade all ILO-Version from my blades
- Upgrade the OA to the latest version
- Upgrade the VC to the latest version. --> Is this an online process or have I expect any outages?

Re: C7000 - VC - OA - ILO - Compatiblity
Hello,
I hope all is well.
ILO and OA are online no outage.
VC up-gradation no outage if it is active standby. ( You have to check how the VC configure “ Active-Active or Active-standby”) before updating.
Outage if it is active-active.
However, we always suggest you plan VC upgradation during a planned maintenance window to avoid any outages on the blades
NOTE: You have to update the firmware as an incremental update ( skip two versions) If the OA & VC running very old firmware.

Re: C7000 - VC - OA - ILO - Compatiblity
I've read in multiple places that iLO --> OA --> VC is the best order. Not sure why. we've been doing OA --> VC and dealing with iLO separately (sometimes before and sometimes after) and we've been OK.

Re: C7000 - VC - OA - ILO - Compatiblity
From a best practices guide:
- update blades online (drivers, firmware, ILO) and OA
- update blades offline, if needed
- update VC
Carefully read the VC firmware release notes !!!
Some modules may not support the newer firmware versions.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.
