Compatibility between Cisco xenpak transceiver and Flex-10 10G transceivers
Mohammed had a Cisco compatibility question:
*********************
Dear Experts
I need to check the compatibility between Cisco catalyst 6509 Switch with xenpak transceiver and flex-10 10G transceiver
Thanks and best regards

From Vincent:

Hi Mohamed,
Xenpak (the form factor of the transceiver) is irrelevant. What matters is the 10G standard it implements: to work with Flex-10 it needs to be 10GBASE-SR, 10GBASE-LR or 10GBASE-LRM, and a SFP+ transceiver implementing the same standard on the Flex-10 side.

Sharad also provided some input:

Hi Mohamed,
Please refer the guide page 41 http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c01386629/c01386629.pdf for compatibility details
Q24: Can I connect VC-Enet’s XFP ports to XENPACK or X2 ports on a Cisco switch?
A24: Cisco states that XENPACK, X2, and XFP modules are compatible if using the same port type. Since VC only supports 10GB-LR and 10GB-SR, Virtual Connect should be compatible with
XENPACK, X2, and XFP modules from Cisco as long as they are using 10GBASE-LR or 10GBASE-SR modules. Since Cisco supports several port types, several transceiver types, and
many different interface modules for their switches, HP does not test every combination. The VC Flex-10 and FlexFabric modules support SFP+ and a wide range of media types.

Thanks to all. Have you had success using Xenpak Transceivers with Virtual Connect Flex-10? Let us know.
