HP BL460C g8 (HP Smart Array P220i Controller) SSD compatibility
Hello everyone,
I'm trying to use an HP SSD 834449-001 (PM1633, 3.84TB, SAS 12 Gbps) in a BL460c Gen8 server, but the RAID controller doesn't recognise the SSD at all.
Has anyone encountered a similar issue? If so, I'd appreciate any insights or solutions you might have.
Thanks in advance!

Re: HP BL460C g8 (HP Smart Array P220i Controller) SSD compatibility
Hi @WebSchool,
The HP SSD 834449-001 is supported for 3PAR.
I have checked the quick specs of BL460c Gen8 server but couldn't find the SSD 834449-001 as supported for this server.
You can refer to this document under the section HPE Hard Drives for SSDs which are supported and recommended by HPE for BL460c Gen8 server.
Hope this information has helped you, Please click on the "Thumbs Up/Kudo" icon as a token of appreciation. Also, if this post has helped to solve your issue, consider marking this as an "Accepted Solution".

Re: HP BL460C g8 (HP Smart Array P220i Controller) SSD compatibility
@rabindra11sharm @prajwal_ds Thank you for sharing the QuickSpecs link. However, IтАЩm still a bit confused.
This SSD uses a standard SAS interface, which is designed for cross-compatibility across multiple servers. IтАЩm wondering if a firmware upgradeтАФeither for the controller or the SSDтАФcould enable support for this drive.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Re: HP BL460C g8 (HP Smart Array P220i Controller) SSD compatibility
Dear WebSchool
All SSD HDDs are used SATA and SAS port, but it does not mean that all controller can use this SSD HDD. It souly depends on which type of controller your server used, only controller's supported types of HDD can be used on that system. Your Server must have P220i or P420i controller installed. and it does not support said SSD type(834449-001). it specially desined for agile storage system HPE 3PAR StroeServ 8000 controllers.
If you want to use SSD in your server, request you to re-check QuickSpec page no 18 to find supported SSD list which is already mentioned on it.
Thanks for reaching US, Hope, I could provide you with clear and helpful instructions. If you have any more questions or need further assistance, don't hesitate to ask. I'm here to help!
Have a great day!!
Thanks & Regards...
