Migrating to FlexFabric

Hi,

Received my two new HP VC FlexFabric 10Gb/24-Port Modules today.
What would be the correct way to replace my current HP 1/10Gb-F VC-Enet Modules and HP 4Gb VC-FC Module in C7000 enclosure, without system downtime? Is it even possible?

Current configuration:

Onboard Administrator Firmware Information
Bay Model Manufacturer Firmware Version
1 Onboard Administrator 3.21 Nov 15 2010
2 Onboard Administrator 3.21 Nov 15 2010

Bay Device Model Firmware Version
1 HP 1/10Gb-F VC-Enet Module 3.15
2 HP 1/10Gb-F VC-Enet Module 3.15
3 HP 4Gb VC-FC Module 1.41
4 HP 4Gb VC-FC Module 1.41

Regards

Re: Migrating to FlexFabric

Please show the current blade population (what blade, and for each, what is ILO and system BIOS (ROM) version?

For each blade, are you connecting to a SAN with the VCFC? If so, what is the mezzanine card?

If not, are you running each blade standalone (no connection to a SAN; only the onboard SAS storage drives)? Otherwise, how could you connect to the SAN without leaving the VCFC modules in place (to talk to the mezzanine HBA on older blades without Flex Fabric?

I have no idea if the VCFlexFab will support the VCFC 4gb modules in any case; that's for someone from HP to tell you.

My advice is to buy a new C7000 for your FlexFabric; you are going to have an interesting time integrating all of the above otherwise. (If it is even possible).

Let us know what develops. I'm very interested.

Thanks, Carl

Replacing your current HP 1/10Gb-F VC-Enet Modules and HP 4Gb VC-FC Module with HP VC FlexFabric modules without system downtime is not possible.

To minimize a downtime you need to start with

Re: Migrating to FlexFabric

Everyone above is right. It cannot be done without a downtime. The Virtual Connect Manager won't move between the interconnect modules if they are of a different type, and VCm requires a VC module in interconnect bay 1.
