RAM config in BL460
I currently have 32GB RAM in a BL460 G1 Blade made up from 8x 4GB modules.
Can I buy an 8x 8GB kit and put replace just two 4GB for 8GB DIMMs in 4 blades? I know you can put in 8x 8GB DIMMs but wondered if you can mix and match (assuming I stay in pairs).
If it makes any difference I have 80W CPUs.
Cheers,
Steve

Re: RAM config in BL460
a really helpful tool for you for these kinds of questions is the HP product Bulletin program.
It lists all details and possible configurations of machines, and it helps you work out the costs.
http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/productbulletin.html#intro
from the quick glance PC2-5300 DDR2-667
64 GB RAM for 80W processors and below. 64Gb not supported on 120W processors.
Up to 3 16Gb (2x8GB) mem option kits or 48 GB mem on 120W processors.
standard 1GB (2x512MB)
2GB (2x1GB)
64GB (8x8GB)
hope that helps. would recommend the product bulletin for your own benefit
regards
Matt

Re: RAM config in BL460
So is it OK to have:
3x 8GB FBD PC2-5300 (2x4 GB)kit
1x 16GB FBD PC2-5300 (2 x8GB) kit
Installed?
Cheers,

Re: RAM config in BL460
you need to look at the requirements for the way you want the RAM cfg to work.
I think there is a diagram on the underside of the blade topcover, which should detail the different configurations, and what you need to do the have Error correction or redundant RAM/interleaving,etc.
there are certainly enough slots to do that, but for interleaving, etc I believe all the pairs need to be the same size.
please assign points if you found my replies helpful
