VC Smart Link question
Tomislav needed some clarification of how the VC SmartLink feature worked for uplink failure detection:
***************************************************************************************************************
I have customer with the following LAN setup:
Blade server -> VC -> Switch 1 -> Switch 2.
If I understand correctly, Smart Link can detect failure of Switch 1, but not failure of Switch 2?
************************************************************************************************************
Paul provided some guidance:
************************************************************************************************************
Correct. With Smartlink correctly enabled, if Switch 1 died, VC would drop link to server NICs dependent on the link from VC to Switch 1. Properly configured NIC teaming software would then divert traffic from that NIC to its partner which is served by the adjacent VC module.
**********************************************************************************************************
Have you covered your uplink failures properly? How are you doing this?
