802.1q and Network Configuration Utility

I have a DL380 server and want to setup a Trunked VLAN from one of the network cards to allow multiple vlans through it.

I have downloaded the Network Configuration Utility which allows the user to create Vlans but can I create multiple vlans on the one card? I am plugging the server into a Cisco 2905 switch which has vlan trunking enabled.

Yes, absolutely. Create the VLANs in the utility and you should then find virtual NICs in your Networking Connections.

Re: 802.1q and Network Configuration Utility

Hmm ok, when I create the first Vlan on the network card (lets say Vlan10) The network card still shows in the "Network and Dialup connections".

An extra conenction called "local connection1 " with the description I gave it Trunk_vlan10 also appears. Do I need to administer an IP address on both (the Vlan trunk and the Vlan) these cards?

Thanks again.

From memory there is one connnection which is the physical one, on this I don't think you can an IP address after you have configured VLAN's. It's only on the virtual NIC's that you will configure and IP address for each VLAN.

This is probably exactly what you need:

ProLiant Ethernet server adapters -Configuring Virtual Local Area Connections in Microsoft Windows environments:

Please assign points to replies that you receive along the way.

Thanks for your help - I have managed to connect one Vlan and shall try to connect others via the trunk.
