Just finished setting up my Compaq WL400. My home network ip is the standard network ip: 192.168.1.1 - 256. This address is not visible to the internet. The address of my 'modem router' is 192.168.1.1. The computers on my network are all odd numbers. When the WL400 was added, dhcp assigned the address: 192.168.1.2. This with the MAC number allowed me to apply the firmware update.

The network ip supplied by the WL400 to my laptop was 169.254.88.xxx.

If DHCP assigns ip addresses automatically, you will have to scan your network for the address.

The WL400 is not secured with a password. You can lock it when you are done and unlock it with a paper clip at the unit.

I have found the necessary set up information on the WL400 CD. Set up the AP Manager and use the online help to get you there. Using the AP Manager, you can set a number of parameters, including the IP address.
