Broadcom BCM5751M Ethernet controller (Compaq nx8220) problem
Hi!
Greatings from Croatia
I have a problem with Compaq nx8220 Broadcom Ethernet controller BCM5751M. It won't recive packets, and the two LED lights are always blinking. There is no problem with installing the drivers and Windows report no errors. I have tried every driver version, tried instaling different OS (XP SP0, SP2, SP3, Vista SP1) and nothing helpes.
I even updated the firmware from 3.29 to 3.65, and that didn't help either. Than i ran the Broadcom Advanced Control Suite 3 Diagnostic test and these are the results:
Control registers: Fail (error pops up: failed to suspend the driver)
MII registers: Failed (same error)
EEPROM: Pass
Internal Memory: Failed(same error)
OnChipCPU: Failed (same error)
Interrupt: Failed
LoopBack MAC: Failed (Loopback test Failed)
LoopBack-Phy: Failed (Loopback test Failed)
Test LED: Pass (let me remind you it is constantly blinking)
I also ran Broadcom NetXtreme Engineering Diagnostics 11.05 utility ( b57udiag.exe the program i used to update firmware) and
ran a nictest:
it failed in these steps:
Checking Bond Id: Invalid bond id 8008000
C2. CPU Test (cpu05.bin v3.4): Rx CPU does not respond
C5. VPD Test Loading Firmware (flashdg5x v3.0): Explansion ROM desired bit is not set after loading firmware
Read only test: Cannot read data from VPD addresse 0000
Write test:Cannot read data from VPD addresse 0080
Expansion ROM Test: Explansion ROM desired bit is not set after loading firmware
ROM size: ROM size error
Expected FFFF0000 but read 00000000 at ROM bar (0x30) register with written to ROM size reg.(0x80)
This is where the test freezes.
Recently, a month ago perhaps, I was transfering some data from my PC to Compaq nx8220 and the transfer went with no problems. After that i tried to connect with my friend using LAN cable and i could see him on the nettwork but he couldn't see me
I really don't know what is the problem. Does this mean the device is dead? There are no other problms on the notebook.
Thank you for helping
