console server. alphaserver.

hello,
i have a dec terminal server 700, connected to an alphaserver es40. All works fine, but if i connect to the console from the dec server, and i try to connect to RMC console, sequence esc+esc+rmc donot work, but if i connect to the console port from a laptop, i can connect to the rmc console. it is seems a problem with the terminal server (console server). Is it necessary a special configuration for the console server?
Thanks in advance

Re: console server. alphaserver.

those old dec 700 serial servers are picky about the type of VT they emulate. is it posible the dec server is presenting a VT and the escape sequence needs a VT ?

here's another question, which side has the serial port? i've had problems telneting to a HPUX box from a dec serial port(fig 1), but i've not had problem telneting to a Dec server on a HPUX serial port (fig 2).

VT-320|--rs232--|dec|--telnet--|hpux fails

laptop|--telnet--|dec|--rs232--|hpux works

Re: console server. alphaserver.

hello,
i do not know what king of emulation has dec server, i think that it is a vt100 but i do not know, i check the configuration menu, and i can not fine where define it.
the connection is like:
laptop--->tcp--->dec server port--> dec server-->rs232 to alphaserver.
thanks

Re: console server. alphaserver.

ok, so you can connect, but the escape sequence doesn't work? if that's the case i'd bet on VT emulation on the dec server port.

if you can't connect at all, check the cable and make sure it's pinned out properly, Dec ports are dce, and your laptop is a dte port.
