FTP Server not Function with FW
Hi,
HP forums always help, and I hope I can find some hint this time too:
My problem: ftp server not able to function well in FW situation. I put a HP Unix box behind FW, and everything including telnet, oracle stuff is OK. When I use Exceed or NetManager FTP servers, I am not able to delete, copy and paste files either direction. But from command ftp I can do anything I want.
I am using Window2K prof. as my workstation. Tech support from those vendors are not helpful. I suspect there is some permission issue between Unix box and Window domain, and somehow the privilieage does not pass through the ftp server. But I have no direction to go further.
Any comment and help are thankful.
Steven

Re: FTP Server not Function with FW
hmm sounds a bit weird.. But lets digress this... Let me ask you something Is this FTP server that you are running, is it an anonymous FTP server or do you have somekind of authentication on it?
1) if you are using anonymous FTP then you should have 777 permissions on the directory that you are trying to access as anonymous FTP would be treated as user"nobody" on the UNIX side, and if you want to give full access.
2) If you are using authenticated login then there might be something to do with the setting of the ftp client/firewall (most likely) setting which might need further investigation.

Re: FTP Server not Function with FW
Make sure that the firewall allows passive ftp. or force the ftp client to use active ftp, and then retry.
By default, IE uses passive ftp, which sometimes the firewalls deny.
