Home Networking with Dial Up

Hello All,

I have a 1 XP Desktop, 1 2000 desktop, One Belkin Router (Wireless), 1 PCI Wireless card, One Ethernet card and I 56k modem.

How can I set up a home network to share the internet connection from one computer connected to the internet through dialup. Is there any site with simple set by step instruction?

Thanks,

Alex

Re: Home Networking with Dial Up

Hi Stan
Assume you put the 56k modem in XP box.
Both PC's should be configured in a lan. The XP should have an IP of 192.168.0.1, with network mask 255.255.255.0
The 2K should have an IP of 192.168.0.x (where x is any number between 2 and 254) with same network mask and with gateway 192.168.0.1
Then configure a connection to Web in XP using the modem. In advanced options check the box "Internet Connection Sharing". You should then be able to connect to Internet in both computers.
If the 2K doesn't open any page search for the URL IP address in XP (ping URL) and try it in 2K. That must work. So in XP open command prompt and introduce "ipconfig /all". See the DNS servers and put them in TCP/IP settings of the 2K.
Good luck and keep us updated
