nc6000 + gentoo + atheros wifi doesn't work
I have a nc6000 notebook and I recently installed gentoo linux on it. It is working well except the wifi. I've read some pages on the net about nc6000-linux-wifi but everywhere I read the blue wireless LED must be light to let the wifi adapter work. But on my notebook, the wifi LED doesn't lit up even if I press the wireless button.
Under WindowsXP the wifi is working correctly.
I have the latest (F.14) firmware but I'm thinking to downgrade to F.13.
Do somebody have any idea how can I force my wifi to work?
Ave, Saabi.

Re: nc6000 + gentoo + atheros wifi doesn't work
the led won't lid until you do since until that your wifi is unpowered (this is another of reasons why it should be possible to monitor the wifi key - unloading a module is good way to mmaintain power cosumpion)

Re: nc6000 + gentoo + atheros wifi doesn't work
Hi All,
For Nc6000 the correct firmware is F.14 on hp website at http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/hpcpqnk/us/download/22831.html but it does not list for the compatibility of the unit or card with Linux. HP provides drivers online related to XP pro, Home and also Windows 2000 but not for Linux. The firmware you have updated is for unit but I would like you to check with compatibility of card with Linux.
As you have informed the card works fine with Windows XP pro but not in Linix and also the LED glows only in xp but not in Linux. Pls check for the radio button for wireless option in BIOS after you install Linux. Also check with and without atheros installed on the unit.
Any responses and feedback would be appreciated.
Thanks and Regards,
Srinivas

Re: nc6000 + gentoo + atheros wifi doesn't work
After I've installed my gentoo on my laptop, the LED never lit up, but the Wifi worked. I've update my gentoo recently, but didn't check what had been updated. I've recognized some days before, the WiFi LED lit up when I turned on the WiFi with its button. And lit down when I pressed the button again.
So, currently the WiFi and its LED are working correctly but I don't know why. I'm using madwifi driver version 0.1443.20060207. Maybe this driver solved this problem.
