NC6000 Wireless Connection

I have a batch of three NC6000s purchased about two months ago. I've only just come to realise that the wireless cards on them are not functioning.

I've pressed the Wireless button above the keyboard, reinstalled the driver from the HP website, and even tried to add the hardware manually, but nothing happened.

Greatly appreciate some assistance.

hi,

by default, as you know, wireless is not enable for the ncXXXX series till you have hit the wireless button and the blue led light appears. beside that, after you configure your wireless network connection to make it work.

please also be clear in what you mean by nothing happen.

The Windows operating system does not even acknowledge that the built-in wireless card exists as it has no entry in the hardware device manager.

When I push the wireless button above the keyboard, there is no blue LED turning on and Windows does not respond with the "New Hardware Found" message. i.e. "nothing happens"

did you hold onto the button for at least 2 seconds and see if the blue light appears, if not it is time to get the HP technical guys to look at it?

by the way, pressing the button would not activate the New Hardware found.

If it will not activate the new hardware found notification on Windows, should the wireless card not then already be listed as a network adapter in the hardware manager?

have you check then if the wireless card is seen in the Device Manager under network adapter? On connection to the network, a icon will appear at the task bar where the network icon is (if it is enable), saying that Network connection at .... MB/s

If there is nothing in the device manager, then the system is not seeing any cards. Even if the cards are there, but the driver not loaded you would see an entry in the device manager about an unknown device.

Are you sure that the nc6000s were ordered with WLAN installed? If yes, it could be a seating problem with the MiniPCI slot. Use your user's guide to determine the location of the MiniPCI slot ( I believe it is under the keyboard in the nc6000 ) and 1) Determine if you have a card, 2) If you do try reseating in its slot.

After banging my head against the desk and phoning HP support, it turns out the things weren't shipped with the builtin wireless cards. Go figure.
