nc8000 keyboard doesn't work when docked

I have a new HP NC8000 laptop. When I dock it, the external keyboard connected to the docking station does not function. It will flash the lights when plugging it in but then does not appear to get powered afterwards. Have tried different keyboards and different docking station. I believe that the docking station is just a simple port replicator that comes with the system.

WOuld appreciate any suggestions.

Have also tried multiple reboots at various times with no positive results.
