Pavilion dv9000

Hello everyone,

Im new here but have read many issues relating to wireless devices. Here's my situation. My laptop's wireless device does not show in the device manager, it gradually stopped working. There is a orange light that stays lit no matter what I do near the wireless on/off switch.(Annoying)
Now please note that I am not looking for repeated problem solving suggestions. Things I have tried include: re-installing Windows XP w/ new partion, Updated drivers from HP website, installing a new wireless card sent by HP, setting default in BIOS, double checking the wireless cards connectivity and disabling the battery. HP Support sent me recovery disc, but they didnt work, in fact the disc troubled me because they appear to be or Windows XP Home Edition(hmmm. Now I am at square 1 again. If I had to guess I would say its something with the motherboard...
ANY THOUGHTS??????? HELP??????????

For me the following works:

1. You run into the "wireless is gone" situation, e.g. after automatic Standby.
2. Now disable WLAN manually (switch off using the WiFi button).
3. Force Standby (close the case and wait until all lights after off, which may take some seconds).
4. Switch on the WLAN button again.
5. Afterwards (not before) open the case again and press some button in order to wake up the notebook again.

WLAN will be back.

Re: Pavilion dv9000

The dreaded Windows Vista Sleep is what killed my laptop. Thanks for the help!

Here are the instructions, that worked for me - same procedure, just worded differently.

1. Turn OFF WLAN switch.
2. Close laptop/notebook lid and wait till it goes dark (only one flashing LED is on the front of the dv9000)
3. Turn ON the WLAN switch.
4. Open laptop/notebook lid and press the spacebar or arrow(s) keys.
5. Wait for Vista to wait up.

Wireless should not be back.

Re: Pavilion dv9000

Google for a list of symptoms caused by motherboard failure, and laptops affected -- my fury is that altho my model number (dv9000) is covered, only certain pruduct numbers under dv9000 are included, and mine is not one of them! The problem is the motherboard, and the symptoms include loss of bootup, VERY slow bootup, WiFi stops working, etc. Send me an email at john (at) johnfrench.org if you have the symptoms but are not covered by their extension plan. If we join together we can stop their refusal to fix their machines. I spent hours with their call center and all they kept saying (politely, of course) is that my product number is not covered. The repair with shipping is well over $500 and it is because of their crappy motherboards!
