Presario 1260 Lucent Modem problem in XP upgrade
Hi there:
I guess you have heard this problem a million times since I saw a lot of newsgroups talking about it without a resolution. I have a Compaq Presario 1260 computer and I recently upgraded to Win XP. The problem was the following: In the device manager the modem appeared with a yellow exclamation mark, it did not get the IRQ 3 automatically and the problem description was either Code 10 or Code 29 (I installed and de-installed the modem several times):
Code 29: The device is disabled because the firmware of the device did not give it the required resources.
Code 10: This Device cannot start
I went to Agere's web site, got the 8.22 generic Lucent Win Modem driver, however this one has exactly the same behavior.
I saw several forums mentioning this problem, however there is not other resolution mentioned than "download the 8.22 Lucent drivers" and "Install Windows Me".
Is there anything I can do? Any input appreciated.

Re: Presario 1260 Lucent Modem problem in XP upgrade
Your problem looks a lot like the problem I had yesterday.
I got my problem upgrading my windows 98 to windows 2000 on an Aptiva 266Mhz.
After the upgrade Windows 2000 refused to accept the ports LPT1 and COM1 showing the error "Code 29: The device is disabled because the firmware of the device did not give it the required resources."
I solved my problem this way: DISABLE the PLUG&PLAY in the BIOS.
Maybe that could be used by you.

I'm having the same issue with my COM port.
How does one disable Plug and Play?
Thanks
