Problem with AP 530 wireless network

We have little problem with wlan. Everything works usually ok, but sometimes connection just drops from some computer. Usually connection will establish itself after little while, but sometimes it takes few hours. I have upgraded latest firmware to 530, but that didn't help. Setup is really simple. Only one room, one access point and six laptops. What could cause these problems?

We are using wpa-psk encryption.

Re: Problem with AP 530 wireless network

Hi

Signal dropping and client disconnecting usually caused by Bad Interference and sometimes by auto channel.

I suggest you make a wireless survey in this room and see how much wireless interference you have (use a software like Netstumbler) then you can have an idea bout your Wireless environment around you, and accordingly you can change the channel to something suitable and non-interfered.

So say you have fixed the 530 AP on CH1, and you have some other WLAN use CH1, then you can change to CH6 or CH11.

Good Luck !!!

Re: Problem with AP 530 wireless network

There are 17 different wireless networks nearby. I thought this was the problem. I have assign channel 2 for access point because there are allready wireless networks on channel 1,6,11 and others. Is there any way to have wlan more interference redundant.

Re: Problem with AP 530 wireless network

Hi

Since you have this number, then i suggest you have a planned channel in your setup.

Have a look on the following documents:
http://www.hp.com/rnd/pdfs/802.11technicalbrief.pdf

and also this:
http://www.hp.com/rnd/pdfs/Wireless_LAN_tech_brief_final.pdf

Note: CH2 interferes with CH1, and the only non-interference channels are: 1,6,11

Good Luck !!!

Re: Problem with AP 530 wireless network

I know channels overlap, but it seemed to work best with channel 2, not so much problems then with channel 1,6,11. I will read those and try with that. I know that the 17 nearby wlan networks is the problem, but I hope we could go around this somehow.

Re: Problem with AP 530 wireless network

Since you have the 530 you could use 802.11a and probably avoid all the interference in your area. That is, if your client notebooks support it.

Re: Problem with AP 530 wireless network

Only one laptop supports 802.11a. We cannot use because of that.
