Re: "Acquiring network address"..
When you get this message: "Acquiring Network Address", it means your laptop is getting an IP from the built in DHCP server in your Motorola WR850G router.
BUT , if this continues, it means the Wireless Security on your Laptop is not correct and doesn't match the one on the wireless router.
Check the password, and encryption type WEP, WAP , .... i'm sure its from the security settings Unless you are far away from Wireless Router and Signal is dropping.
Don't forget to assign points.
Good Luck :)

Re: "Acquiring network address"..
-i am currently logged onto the net by hardwiring my laptop from my router... BUT i have found that if i directly connect my cable connection to my laptop, it says "acquiring net work address" then it says that the connection has "limited or no connection".
-my laptop came with a built in Broadcom 802.11b/g WLAN.
-i also have used the hp site's wireless solution guide, but still no wireless connection. thx again for your help.

Re: "Acquiring network address"..
If you have some security settings on the Wireless router, and you know the password, then you can just Browse the Available wireless networks, then double click your one and provide the password.
In this way the Windows will add this Wireless Network after a successful connection to your Favourites, so it will connect automatically next time.
Or you can add it manually, Start > settings > Wireless Network Connection , right click > properties > Wireless Networks > add ... > then provide the information like SSID and security settings and password.
And for the message : connection is "limited or no connection". its Normal after acquiring net work address Time Out.
Don't forget points :)
Good Luck

Re: "Acquiring network address"..
Only the question author can assign points to a given response. If you submit a question or new topic and another member replies to it, you will see a dropdown menu of points next to the reply (you must be logged in to see the menu). Select the point value and then click the "submit points" button. Note that you can rate multiple replies and submit them at one time.
