****** TabletPC--- HELP: I connect well to router, but NO INTERNET **** HELP ******
I have a Compaq TabletPC (bought in 2002). When I first attempted to connect my TabletPC to my wireless network (which was both well-opperable and pre-existing at the house I moved into), I was unsuccessful using the built in 802.11 wireless device. So then:
I then inserted my old ('02) Dell TrueMobile 1150 series wireless card and had some success actually surfing the internet once I had disabled (Right-clicking it in "Network Connections") the Compaq 902.11b WLAN Mini-PCI. ***It seems to my roommates and I that the similar trouble's they have been having (getting service) started when I 1st connected to the wireless network.***
My success getting internet service was irregular, however here is what I don't understand:-----!!!Help Please!!!----:
-The Wireless Device Icon in the screens -bottom right toolbar always says it is either -connected or "connected with limited....", -however the "status" of the connection states -that I am recieving few or no packets. -Furthermore, the "status" indicated many -packets are being sent.
-The router (lnksys Model:BEFW1154) is -located in my roommates room. His computer -(Toshiba satelite) is connected to the -internet directly by cable, from the router. -His internet works seemingly w/out failure. -Also if it helps you help me, his computer was -used to setup our wireless access network (w/5 -users).
PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT OTHER INFORMATION YOU NEED IN ORDER TO ASSIST ME... AND THANKS TO ALL WHO READ, AND A MILLION THANKS TO THOSE WHO HELP.

Re: ****** TabletPC--- HELP: I connect well to router, but NO INTERNET **** HELP ******
You will need to get the following infomation.
1) Is WEP/WPA Enabled , 64/128 bit
2) Are you getting an IP Address from the Router or is it static
You can get this from Networking in the Control Panel.
3) What is "ipconfig" returning
command prompt -> type "ipconfig /all"
It is also worth typung "ipconfig /renew"
4) What OS are you on XP PRO?

Re: ****** TabletPC--- HELP: I connect well to router, but NO INTERNET **** HELP ******
In addition to the data mentioned inthe previous post, tell us if hte router is a B or a G. 802.11g or 802.11b
"G" is the faster of the 2 (54 mps vs 11 mps) and if you have an "Extreme" system like D-link and the other major brands you can get upto 108 mps.
Like a B card in your PC will work with a G router but NOT the other way around. That may be why your original card in your PC did not work.
B is the older and now obsolete of the 2.
