TC1000 and IPX with various APs

Does IPX work on the TC1000 with ANY access point? So far, we have not been able to get IPX to work on the tablet pc over the mini-pci card (or 3rd-party pcmcia wireless cards) and the following APs:

Cisco Aironet 1100
NetGear ME-102
Intel AP1210

TCP/IP works great, but we need to get IPX working for access to network resources. Netware client 4.83sp2 Other wireless devices we have work fine with all the above mentioned APs. None of the above APs are using VLANs.
Insights or further questioning is very welcome.

Thanks,
Andrew

Re: TC1000 and IPX with various APs

It's a good thread you started here.
On looking closer, none of the above AP specifically seem to support IPX/SPX, whereas :
they specifically say to be supporting some protocols
when a manufacturer describes protocols, he write IPX specifically.
This seems to be indicating that your report is true.
But it's odd, as 802.11 is layer 2 protocol, so addressing shouldn't be invloved.
Do you confirm that the same machine, with same encryption (WEP), works if you turn IPX to TCP/IP, and that of course it works with cable ?

Re: TC1000 and IPX with various APs

Yes, the machine works with tcp/ip. Yes it works with a cable.

IPX/SPX gets forwarded with all these access points on desktop machines using the belkin F5D6001 V.2. So, I'm unclear still what the problem is with the TC1000. Any thoughts?

Re: TC1000 and IPX with various APs

Hi Andrew,
TC1000 IS IPX compatible. Refer to the 802.11b section in
http://www.google.fr/search?q=cache:DxbsTmOq7A0J:www.compaq.com.au/products/tabletpc/downloads/tabletqs.pdf+%2Btc1000+%2Bipx+%2B802.11b+%2Bcompatible&hl=fr&ie=UTF-8
I think you are right in blaming TC1000. Wireless card is layer 2 protocol, nothing to do with IPX, I thought about a router problem, bt you say it works on other machines.
I finally found that TC1000 is running Windows XP tablet PC edition, which is knows to have problems with IPX protocol (m$ says all over the world it works great, but companies like Datawest claim that "Due to unresolved issues with Microsoft's implementation of IPX/SPX protocol, this protocol should be avoided").
Maybe could you :
- first check that the wake on lan option is not checked (it's so efficient that it never wakes, and even prevents network connection !) in your BIOS,
- then try to install Novell driver for Pocket PC instead of m$ one...
Hope it helps...

Re: TC1000 and IPX with various APs

Well, what I have found is that getting IPX to work on the TC1000 is not happening. However, we had Gateway do a persentation with one of their tablets and things worked great first time out. Oh well...
