tx 1000 wireless adapter disappeared

The wireless card just disappeared this morning. Tried reinstalling driver, and had same response. Software is up-to-date (new BIOS installed last week). Seems to be endemic based on recent posts

Same happened to me this morning. I took out the card, cleaned the contacts - didn't help.

Did you get any resolution to your problem?

Re: tx 1000 wireless adapter disappeared

The same thing just happened to me today. TX 1000. I have had some problems with my wireless previously. I am starting to think the wireless in the TX 1000 is faulty.

Re: tx 1000 wireless adapter disappeared

You may have seen this on another thread but it did seem to work for me. THe NVIDIA drivers seem to conflict with the wireless driver for some reason. I reloaded the video drivers and my wireless is working again.

The Link above explains the recall. The Computer Models and the issues for this recall. Wireless Card Malfunction is Number 1 on the list.

Dealing with tech support.

Hp Tech support is driving to minimize any chance of them having to pay for new parts. In saying this.
If your Wireless Card Is not in Device Manager and You have an Amber Light When the Wireless Switch is in the ON positions. This is a Malfunction With the motherboard and not the Wireless Card.

Fixes that will not fix this issue.

- Trouble Shooting with hp - They like to belame alot of this issue on:

- Microsoft.
- Corupt Drivers.
- Out of date firmware.

If Hp Tells you this, Let them know Your Wireless Card no longer shows in device manger (Make sure it doesnt show in device manger to be fair.)
Also STRESS That you have an amber light that is in the wireless switch on posistion.

Then referance this recall and let them know , Hp Has admitted to this issue and your laptop needs serviced.

Again. Stess to tech support your issue.

There series of steps are things like:

Re - Installing The driver

Updating Firmware.

If these steps work they are only temporty

Same thing here, spent a couple hours so far talking with HP.

Since I have gotten my tx2000, my CD drive and hard drive have been replaced (warranty). Now my wireless is out, no warranty.

Re: tx 1000 wireless adapter disappeared

got the same sad story here too.Presario f504. exactly the same as others. tried everything suggested by HP to no avail. kept the messages from the HP online help. Charlie Ray and Peggy Sue gave advice to 1. take off the battery and hold the power button down to drain the capacitors and 2. unscrew the panel underneath, take the leads off the card, put it in a non static poly bag then put it back in. My laptop is different to the one in the diagram and wouldn't like to rake around for the card. wish i'd found this sight earlier i could have not wasted 12 hours of my life sitting at the bottom of my stairs. Come on HP - Sort something. Don't lose customers in these hard times..!

Re: tx 1000 wireless adapter disappeared

I have the same problem with the wireless card disappearing on my tx2000 and tried all sorts of driver/bios/system updates and reinstalls to fix it...but then I discovered that if i ran a Windows update, the wireless adapter was recognized upon reboot but after a day or so, it'd disappear again. I thought maybe some sort of "special reset" occurred during a windows update but that's still a mystery.

Today I stumbled upon this which fixed it.
I assume it's only temporary but at least it's something:

http://forums13.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?admit=109447627+1249783099607+28353475&threadId=1169078

The reasoning and instructions is explained thoroughly in the link but basically,
1. Shut down your computer
2. remove your battery and unplug the power cord
3. Hold down power button/switch for 20 secs (clears power in the motherboard)
4. Then plug in power cord and boot up.

Hopefully, you'll find as I did that the wireless adapter is recognized again.

Re: tx 1000 wireless adapter disappeared

This just happened to me yesterday on my Pavilion tx 1000 and I tried the reboot fix, and no dice.

Just to add something weird to the mix, my Wireless switch still has a blue light in the ON position, my Bluetooth icon still shows up, but no wireless, and no listing of the Broadcom wireless card in the device manager list.

I've had other issues with the tablet feature no longer working, the built-in webcam crapped out, and my SD slot is no longer recognized. The advice from the HP support people? Reset it back to factory settings. Right, back up 180GB of data, lose all my software and whatnot and go back to factory settings. Awesome.

I'm going to Future Shop and picking up an Acer netbook for $249 with XP. Because of these issues, I'm back to using my 3-year-old 15" Gateway laptop that is almost as slow as my desktop. Thanks HP.

Re: tx 1000 wireless adapter disappeared

Unbelievable!!! So many people affected by this and no official solution?!

Same thing happened to me yesterday on my tx1000 series (tx1305ca to be precise). Out of the blue the wireless adapter dissapeared from the device manager and the led became amber to date.

I spent HOURS trying to figure out what happened.

Since the adapter is no longer visible I thought maybe a virus messed up something, so I re-flashed the BIOS with the latest update and I re-installed the Broadcom driver. NOTHING. The BIOS is crap anyway, very primitive, nothing to let you enable/disable the wireless.

Then I thought maybe the wireless adapter got fried, but I placed it in another HP and it was detected immediately. NOTHING WRONG WITH THE ADAPTER HW. The vice-versa, placing an Intel wireless adapter had no effect, it's as if the slot itself or the switch is permanently off.

Then I thought maybe the switch got worn out, i opened up my laptop to pieces and tested the switch with an electronic meter ... NOTHNIG WRONG WITH THE SWITCH.

After all that I plugged a cable and went browsing, only to find that many more people have this problem. At least it's a comfort.

I began trying the solutions proposed in this thread:

1. Shutdown, unplugged cord and battery and kept the power switch ON for 20-30 seconds. NO EFFECT.

2. Full Windows (Win7 64bit) Update - NO EFFECT

3. Uninstalled the nVIDIA video driver - NO EFFECT

Another maybe precious detail is that I also have the factory Windows Vista on another partition. The wireless card is gone from that installation as well.

So it must be some very very very strange hardware problem, with a very weird fix probably.

Din anyone find a solution or should I buy another external USB WiFi?

Thanks a lot,in advance,
Christian
