W200 connection problems

Every time I try to open my Compaq PC Card configuration utility in the wireless LAN from the Start menu I receive this error message: "error opening the control panel applet: WNCOM51.CPL-8002. In fact, I can't even open the client manager. Can someone please help me? Thanks.

Re: W200 connection problems

Hi Jeff,

You might want to try uninstalling all of the W200 related apps you have on your machine and then reinstalling them via the old wired connection.

Go to www.hp.com and find all the requisite drivers for your model and operating system.
Keep in mind, you'll need all of the following for your W200 to work properly:
- Intel Chipset drivers (tells your laptop where to find the connection to that nifty board the wireless card plugs into)
- W200 driver (of course!)
- Hotkey software (enables the FN-F2 to enable/disable the radio)
- EAB software (for good measure)

You may not even need to uninstall first (sometimes installing over top is just fine) but you'll likely find it the cleaner solution.

Re: W200 connection problems

To the previous post...

The hotkey software has absolutely nothing to do with the functioning of the Fn-F2 key sequence. That key sequence is handled completed by the BIOS with no help at all from any software loaded in the operating system.

To the original poster....

The control panel applet is a part of the device driver install, so either the device driver package is not installed or did not install correctly... I would try to uninstall all W200 software and attempt an re-install. Best results happen when the W200 is enabled during the un-install / install process.
