WAP420 IAS DYNAMIC VLAN & CISCO 2950

I am currently in the process of setting up a wireless network in a school.

My current issue is that a client is not getting an ip from the dhcp server. The client authenticates to IAS fine but does not get an ip. I assume this is an issue with vlan assignment however im not sure if its a config problem with the WAP or the Cisco switch.

The cisco port the wap is on is set to a 802.1Q trunk. The wap is setup for dynamic vlan.

Am i missing somthing? Anyones help would be appreciated!

Re: WAP420 IAS DYNAMIC VLAN & CISCO 2950

Hi

After a Successful authentication happens, login to your pretty switch and check that port, what are the Vlans assigned DYNAMICALLY ???

After that, check if you have this assigned statically to the same Vlan,
Will it get the DHCP address ??

If no, then check:
1- Switch config.
2- If the DHCP in different Vlan, check the Routing switch config.

A small drawing with some config. attached here, could be also helpful.

Note:
HP always uses the Standard protocols, so when we integrate any vendor with Cisco, we first check who uses his own proprietary ones.

Good Luck !!!

Thanks Mohieddin

I actually figured this one out yesterday after reading a single line in another post that pointed me in the right direction.

The Cisco switch was not the issue. The issue lied in a setting on the WAP in particular the authentication servers for the wireless interface.

The client would authenticate but not get the vlan and hence no ip from dhcp. IAS by default gives the vlan as a string not hex as the WAP expects it by default. A simple switch to ascii on the WAP solved my issue!

I thought it would be somthing simple, it just took me 5 days to find it!
