Solution
You will have to come back here to read your answers.
You need a wireless router with a 4 port switch builtin. Doesn't matter if it is 802.11B or G. The G is faster but the B is a lot cheaper since they are being phased out. For DSL either will do.
You connect the router's WAN port to your DSL modem with a straight RJ45 Cat5 Ethernet cable. There are then 4 free connections on your router. Plug another Ethernet cable into one jack, doesn't matter which and plug the other end into your desktop. You can plug the printer into the desktop and share it or you can put it on its own cable plugged into the router.
The Laptop will want a PCMCIA Wireless adapter which plugs into the fat creditcard slot.
If you watch the Sunday ads (CompUSA or Circuit City or equivalent) you can pick up a router and a card (B) for less than $20 after rebates. If you insist on the G then may be as low as $40 or as much as $120 if you don't shop around.
If for some reason you want the desktop to be wireless too then you need a PCI Wireless adapter for it. If the laptop does not have a PCMCIA slot then you may be able to find a USB Wireless adapter.
However, that won't give you internet everywhere. Only where there are public Wireless Access Points.

Re: What do I need to go wireless etc
Over in a concurrent thread "Evo 610C network cards" http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/bizsupport/questionanswer.do?threadId=740959&admit=716493758+1100616835155+28353475
there's been a similar discussion.
One thing I found out: "Actually DSL modems dont come with an ethernet jack over 90% of the time. That is why most people use DSL wireless routers with the modem built in"
Question: Does the DSL modem have integrated wireless? If so, chances are it is only 802.11b. Unless you can find cheap 802.11g adapters, get the 802.11b versions. They will cost less than the "G" variety.
Question: Is your laptop connected to the DSL? If so, then as Ron said, you just need a wireless (PCI? USB?) adapter for your desktop. Set its connection the same as the laptop.
Question: What do you mean by "have the internet where ever i go"?
If you mean, just around the house /apartment, then the wireless adapters (desk and laptop) would be sufficient.
If you mean around town, then you are either limited to locations with Wireless Access Points (most (all?) Starbucks, various other restaurants and hotels, other), or you need a PCMCIA cell phone card (dialup speeds, cellular air time) for your laptop. I do not know who all sells those; I do know Sprint is one. (This is not an endorsement, just an observation of one cellular vendor.)
Note: While I am an HPE Employee, all of my comments (whether noted or not), are my own and are not any official representation of the company

Re: What do I need to go wireless etc
I am not sure if it has integrated wireless but it does have an ethernet slot in the back. I don't have a laptop yet i am in the proccess of buying one. So sionce i am getting one i want a netork to go with it. When i say where ever i go i mean like around town or to another state. What is and what does a PCMCIA cell phone card do.
