Wireless connection

I just received a HP Compaq nc6000 laptop that has Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG capability that's running Windows 2000. At home I use a Linksys WRT-54G Wireless Router.

I know how to access the Network section of of Control Panel and check the properties of the Wireless device. After I added my SSID to that section, I still was unable to access the internet.

I would appreciate any assistance in resolving this issue and how to access different wireless networks when traveling.

Thanks

Re: Wireless connection

Hi,

You mean you can connect to wireless router, and cannot access internet? Or you can't connect wireless router either?

Normally entering ssid and having obtain ip address and dns automatically selected is enough. But if there is some security restrictions like MAC address filtering, WEP key encryption etc. set in your wireless router, you need to define that settings in your network properties, wireless tab.

Re: Wireless connection

I cannot log into the wireless router. I do have security on the wireless router.

Thanks

Re: Wireless connection

Why you can't login?

I have a Linksys WAG54G Wireless-G ADSL Gateway, and by default, it's ip address is 192.168.1.1 and user/pass both "admin"

Check documentation on cd, and you can learn default ip address and logon credentials. If you have changed password already and can't remember, again check for documentation to reset the settings to factory default.

Re: Wireless connection

Do I have to log into the Linksys IP and allow the laptop to access the network?

Thanks

Re: Wireless connection

If there is security restrictions set in your router, yes.
