Wireless Lan W200 module and hibernating in Windows XP

I currently have a Compaq Evo N610C laptop with a Wireless Lan W200 module and I use it to connect to a wireless network at home.
I'm having 2 different problems, which I don't know if they are related:

1) whenever I use FN-F2 to disable the wireless card, the green light turns off as expected, but I cannot get the card to work again, that is, enable it by pressing FN-F2 again or by right-clicking the card in Network Connections and selecting Enable. The only alternative is to actually reboot the machine.

2) Sometimes, when I resume the machine after hibernating it, the card is not recognized, that is, I cannot use it, and it says that there is no card present. Again, the only solution is to reboot the machine.

Any clues?

My windows XP is Professional, SP1

OneTouch software has absolutely nothing to do with it...the Fn-F2 is handled exclusively by the BIOS.

The two most likely changes that will help:
1) Updating the USB controller drivers
2) Try re-seating the module...look at it from the side (from the other side of the display) and see if you can see the square notches...if yes than it is riding to high and needs to be re-seated. Best method is to start the slide on as close to the final position as possible.

Re: Wireless Lan W200 module and hibernating in Windows XP

I found a new driver for the Wireless Lan Multiport W200, SP27295 and downloaded. Ran the wizard, but it didn't even gave me a chance to stop the installation, it simply installed the new driver and client manager.

Since the installation, I'm unable to turn the Wireless Card on. I've tried all sorts of things, even uninstalled everything, removed the card and started all over with the original CD, but I have given up. The SW and driver is installed, but the card is no recognized when installed. When I press Fn-F2, I can hear a sound, but nothing happens, and under Devide Manager, there is no Wireless Network Adapter anymore.

I'm trying to find a USB Controller driver but can't seem to find it. Can someone point me to where to find it. I have a Evo N610C running XP SP1.

Any clues will be greatly appreciated.

Re: Wireless Lan W200 module and hibernating in Windows XP

one touch and hputl or whatever the name for the utilities is,does control the on/off for the wireless card. It does on my compaq and hp so as every one elses, cause
in order to turn on or off wireless Fn key and F2 has to be used.

Now, how the heck is USB controller drivers are responsible for this????????????

usb and mini-pci port are two differenty thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!

one is not related to another

Re: Wireless Lan W200 module and hibernating in Windows XP

Serge,

Evo 610c notebooks do not add WLAN via Mini-PCI, but via the MultiPort which is on the back of the display.

The MultiPort is connected to the system board via an USB connection.

On ALL MultiPort notebooks, Fn-F2 turns the device on and off. The KBC checks for this key sequence and handles the activity ALL by itself without creating a scan code and sending it to the keyboard device driver. Without sending a scan code, it is impossible for the One Touch software to become involved...so it is NOT involved at ALL!

Re: Wireless Lan W200 module and hibernating in Windows XP

My EVO N410C has a similar problem. The W200 will not function properly when the laptop is "resumed" from standby mode. It works fine if "resumed" from hibernation.

I've tracked this problem through several w200 driver upgrades, so I am not sure where the problem originates.

If someone has found a solution, please let me know.

Note: My laptop is an EVO410C, XP wSP2

Thanks

Re: Wireless Lan W200 module and hibernating in Windows XP

I solved the problem by reseting my EVO, that is, run the recovery CD which basically formated and reinstalled everything as itf it were new.
Then downloaded the newest driver from HP. Go to www.hp.com, select Support & Troubleshooting, then type in your model, in my case I typed Evo N610C, selected Download SW and Drivers, then selected my operating system, which is XP Pro. Then scrolled down to Driver - Network and selected Compaq Wireless LAN Multiport W200 Driver for Windows 2000/XP. If your multiport module has "Wireless Lan W200" written on its side, then you should download this. If not, then you should download "Compaq 802.11b Multiport Module Software for Windows XP". Ran the executable and bingo!! now it works perfectly like it should.
