XE3 OMNIbook PCMCIA wireless troubles with Linksys WPC11 and Windows XP
I recently installed a Linksys WPC11 wireless card on my XE3-GC omnibook w/XP Pro and it had a lot of trouble recognizing the card at first. After 3 hours, and multiple restarts with the card in and out of the PCMCIA slot, unistalling and reinstalling the drivers, it finally recognized the linksys card. I set up the ssid and the network appeared. Then I had trouble connecting to the internet though IE even thought the network was sending and receiving packets. Somehow, i got a valid ip address and no pages would display. I rebooted and it connected to the internet and recognized the network. I shutdown, went to sleep, woke up the next morning, turned the computer on and it could not recognize the card - "UNKNOWN PCMCIA device" warning and not network connection. What is going on??? Bad PCMCIA slots?? Thanks,
Jason

Re: XE3 OMNIbook PCMCIA wireless troubles with Linksys WPC11 and Windows XP
What processor type does your omnibook have? I have two notebooks (IBM), one with a P3 and another with a P2. The P3 works fine with the same Linksys hardware you have but the P2 is really flaky. This is because the processor is too slow. No solution other than getting a newer system. If you have a P3 or better, check the voltage of the PCMCIA slot.

Re: XE3 OMNIbook PCMCIA wireless troubles with Linksys WPC11 and Windows XP
Just did a little research on your system. Apparently it is a P3-700. This is good. You probably have a bad slot. Do you get 11Mbps consistently, or does it waffle between 1, 5.5 and 11 Mbps xfer rate? What happens if you move closer to the router? Also, what version is your Linksys card?
