active-passive configuration of switch fabrics in HP 7503

Recently came across IRF feature of HP switches.HAve a query in HP 7503 (2 switching fabrics model).Can the switch fabrics be configured in active-passive mode in HP7503 instead of active-active mode?

No, don't works and makes no sense, because it reduces performance and increase convergence time.

What would you archieve with active-passive?
