Behavior IRF
Hello everyone,
I'm with some doubts on the functioning of the IRF. I not found this information in any documentation.
- If I join two 10Gb interfaces in IRF, as will be the "use" of these interfaces? In my setup, I only see traffic passing on a connection (attached print).
- In relation to the above question, I do not see the TX / RX traffic in both directions. This is because management made the switch master of the IRF? What kind of traffic passing by IRF interfaces?
- In the first "merge" the IRF. The switch with the highest priority is the master. If this switch to restart it again be the master? In my tests it did not happen...

IRF is designed to minimize traffic across IRF link when possible utilizing a default setting "Local FIrst". Which means while a request packet may traverse the IRF llink the response may not.
When a master/slave swap over happens and the slave becomse now becomes the master IRF switch. When the original master comes back it will not take over as master again wihout user intervention in order to keep the network up. This is by design. If a swap back happend automatically there would be a network interuption.

Without more information about the network topology (how devices are connected upstream and downstream from the core) and where the source and destination devices are that are generating traffic its diificult to answer the 1st 2 questions.

My IRF stacks consists of 4 5510 switches, comware 7.
If they split in two seperate stacks (all the switches remain running), for example:
switches 1 and 2 (1 is the master) become one IRF stack
and switches 2 and 3 (2 is the master) become 2nd IRF stack,
second stack will reboot upon re-introduction to the first stack. Switch 1 and 2 wouldn't reboot.
I'm just wondering if there is a way of stoping joining switches from reboot
