initial configuration of a switch
Hi ,
sorry if this might be silly but i am new to this world . I have a HPE FF 5940 switch , i have configured an admin user and a mangemement interface (M-GigabitEthernet0/0/0) and ssh connection to the switch. these are the only configuration i did .
i have connected interface 1/0/1 with a 1GB transeiver 1/0/3 with a 10GB transeiver . this is the configuration :
Interface Link Speed Duplex Type PVID Description
XGE1/0/1 UP 1G F A 1
XGE1/0/2 DOWN auto A A 1
XGE1/0/3 UP 10G(a) F(a) A 1
the problem is that the traffic doesn't flwo through the switch what i mean is i tried pinging host behind the 1GB interface from the host behind the 10GB port , i also tried pinging the M-GigabitEthernet interface from the host connected in 1/0/3 without success .
what an i missing here ?
thanks

Re: initial configuration of a switch
What display transceiver interface Ten-GigabitEthernet 1/0/1 and display transceiver interface Ten-GigabitEthernet 1/0/3 report?
I'm not an HPE Employee

Re: initial configuration of a switch
let me explain the topology , it is a simple one
i am connecting interface 1/0/1 using 1GB transceiver to a host with IP 172.16.16.155 .
interface 1/0/3 using 10GB transceiver to a host with IP 172.16.16.73 .
switch outputs:

Mac : 001c-7f60-6465 is the mac address of host 172.16.16.73 which is behind the 10GB transceiver .
looks like the switch isn't able to deal with 1GB transceiver . (i tried so many 1GB transceivers with different manufactures)

Re: initial configuration of a switch
Hi,
Could you try moving the 1 Gig transceiver to - say interface Te1/0/45 with same configuration on Te1/0/45 as on Te1/0/1
And then try again.
The reason i ask this is because I've seen some really weird things on a HP5700, where (me guessing now) the ASIC controlling the port-group might be programmed somehow to be either 10Gig or 1Gig, but not both. And then it does not work (if you switch directly between them).
As you I saw link up, but never a MAC-address.
