management port configuration on 5900 IRF switch

Hello

I have configured management port for 5900 switches which are in IRF.

As i know only 1 management port is active while in IRF. and when primary master fails secondary gets the same IP address on its management port.

What if primary master is alive and someone cuts cable of management port? i will loose management connection to IRF stack. how can i resolve this problem ?

The same scenario I guess, because you would loose the connection to primary interface. The secondary interface should responde to IP request then.

I was curious about this behavior and ran a quick test on a pair of 5500's. Admitedly, not 5900's but the behavior should be the same.

I found that the active Mgmt interface was on the IRF Master and it didn't matter if the cable was pulled. The Mgmt IP interface didn't migrate to the IRF standby.

There are some other options that may work for you too. Of course you could use inband management. You could also setup a serial console server to both console ports as you can connec to both console ports at the same time independent of who is master.
