Hi,

 

Hardware HP 5900AF-48XG-4QSFP+ Switch
Operating System HP Comware 7.1.045 2311P01

 

I"m getting the below error in my log buffer

 

%Jun 23 23:38:10:812 2015 HP-5900-Stack OPTMOD/4/PHONY_MODULE: Ten-GigabitEthernet1/0/46: This is not a supported transceiver for this platform. HP does not guarantee the normal operation or maintenance of unsupported transceivers. Please review the platform datasheet on the HP web site or contact your HP sales rep for a list of supported transceivers.

What SFP+ should I be looking for and how can I see the part number remotely of the one currently being used ?

Comware switches will give this message if you use Procurve transceivers for example.

The following command will give you more info about the transceiver:

 

display transceiver interface Ten-GigabitEthernet 1/0/46

Your choice depends on speed, cable type and distance.

It's not really an "error".

 

If the transceiver lights up and passes traffic, then everything should be OK.

Vince is right, we have used unsupported transceivers for a long time in our 5900 switches without any problems. But for our IRF links we use supported transceivers just in case we need help from HP support.

Yes this is true, 

 

The DC are seeing RX errors, so I've been looking for anything that could be causing it, the fibres have been changed.

 

I think the dc is looking to swap their transceivers, if that doesn't work I"ll look at swapping out these ones for the supported ones

Get them to show you the output of their "show..." command that displays the error statistics.

 

Better detail might help you understand the potential issue.

See the interface errors on the DC side, I see alot of overruns, the DC hardware is a cisco 6500

Your 10Gb ports are oversubscribed and dropping packets when large bursts come through.

 

Do you have spare ports on your 10 Gb modules 1 & 5?

 

If so, then 

 - move the transceiver and link from port 1/11 to port 1/9.

 - remove any links from ports 1/10 & 1/12.

 - issue the command no hw-module slot 1 oversubscription port-group 3

 

Similarly for your other link:

 - move the transceiver and link from port 5/14 to port 5/13.

 - remove any links from ports 5/15 & 5/16.

 - issue the command no hw-module slot 5 oversubscription port-group 4

 

Overruns should stop.
