Upgrading COMWARE based switch(Best Practice)

Whenever I need to upgrade a comware based switch, do I need to do an incremental update when I'm dealing with a new switch which literrally came out of the box? or can I jump to the latest available firmware/OS. I'm aware that if the switch is on production or currently in used the best practice would be to do it incrementally to prevent running into some issues.

A simple answer would be: "Carefully read Release Notes for your particular Switch Series (as reference do use the Switch SKU)"...Release Notes (for each particular Comware 5/7 Software Release) includes detailed info about how to proceed with software updates...and, if you have doubts, you can collect a lot of useful info reading relevant Release Notes published over years (especially if you're planning to perform "big jumps" among time distant software releases or, whenever possible, Comware version upgrade from 5 to 7).

Thanks for replying to my question. But if I have a new switch. Do I still need to mind the release notes for the previous software or the latest will do?

Clearly start with the latest you're concerned about...

Backing to your original question: doing all updates is not necessary nor mandatory...but, sometime, depending on which software version your switch is running and the one you want it to run...it could be not only necessary but really recommended (Release Notes)...and thus using some specific interim software release(s) would help you to reach desired software version safely.
