HP 517 J9841A Unified WallJack
I have a client who uses a lot of the intellijack switches, mainly PN: JD057A (NJ2000). Those are EOL back in October 2014. I was hoping PN J9841A (HP 517 Unifeid WallJack) would be a good replacement, but they don’t need the wireless component ... can these be configured through the web interface or only from a HP MSM Wireless controller.

Re: HP 517 J9841A Unified WallJack
MSM517 wall jack can be configured only with HP MSM Wireless controller. But it can be used for this case. But what do you mean lot of .... . By MSM technology you are limited to 200 APs (or 800 APs using controller cluster) using MSM760/765zl/775zl.
Or you can use HP 527 or 417 under HP Unified controllers (ex: HP 830/850/870 or as blade to 10500) and here is your limit in 1536 AP (using 870) or thousands using blade to HP 10500 switch).
What can be advantage for customer is the central management and fully controlled environment and also PoE+ to one port. You don´t need to use the wireless part, but you can. I recommend Unified for this case, it is more robust and more stable. Everything is configured using common Comware operating system included inside controllers. Also HA is available. And the most important thing - under Lifetime Warranty 2.0

Re: HP 517 J9841A Unified WallJack
Does anyone know of a replacement option for the IntelliJack series of in-the-wall switches? These are invaluable in a school setting where having it "in the wall" avoids all sorts of issues with the power cable getting unplugged by mysterious means.
Although I'm very happy with HP products, as my entire school district's wired infrastructure is based on them, I do not have to have an HP solutioion for this.
Tim.

Re: HP 517 J9841A Unified WallJack
There is no direct replacement for the Intellijack atm.
All of the accessdevice (317, 417, 517, 527) require a controller to operate; none of them operate in autonomous/standalone mode.
One possible alternative is the 1810v2 switch. It is a small 8-port gigabit web-managed switch, fanless, easily wall mounted. And its biggest claim to fame is that it will run from a single POE input from an upstream switch. Just plug port 1 into a POE source, and it will power the switch.
