Adding a larger drive to a RAID 5 setup

Can a 76Gb drive be added to our previous 3 36Gb drives under RAID 5? If so will it be used to its full capacity or just 36Gb of it, as I've heard is the case.

It really depends on the type of RAID controller you have, which you did not mention. In case you are talking about SmartArray or HSG/Z controllers, the answer is 36 GB.

I believe its SmartArray, thanks for your help. Which controllers would allow for more useage?

The EVA (Enterprise Virtual Array) systems can truly use different sized disks in a disk group although we are no longer talking about simple RAID sets, here.
