Re: Disk Array
I think it's an SP SIMM problem. Contact your HP engineer and describe him the problem. I think you need a SIMM replacement.

Re: Disk Array
SIMM is Single-In-line Memory Modules. Each SP (Storage control Processor) has 4 sockets in which you can put such SIMMs. These provide memory for the SP.

Re: Disk Array
Did you manage to configure Gridmanager yesterday?
If so, enter Gridmanager and select Presentation Utility. On the lower right corner of the screen, there should be "Cache States" written. From there, can you tell me whether Write and Read are disabled or not?

Then I think you have a faulty SIMM. Contact your HP engineer and tell him the problem.

Re: Disk Array
Do you see anything on
ioscan -fnkCdisk | grep C2
Cache: 8mb
Systm: 2mb Firmware Rev: HP02
Read: 0mb Disabled Microcode Rev: 9.26.07 Auto Trespass: Off
Write: 6mb Disabled Prom Rev Levl: 8.02.00 Stat Logging: Off
Your cache is disables because you have lost SPB
Go behind and power cycle it.
Or connect directly via RS232 to gridmanager and reset.
You can upgrade your controllers to the Phoenix revision, which will see a 2X perf increase. Ask your CE/RCE.

Bill

Re: Disk Array
The LUN 1 is
NO_HW
The LUN 0 doesn't exist from your earlier attachment.
(But will show up as CLAIMED no matter what, once the server can communicate with the array)
So, you're going to have to recreate your LUNs (Bind) and restore all your data.
There are a few tricks with Gridmanager using Ctrl ][][][][ diagnostic mode to repair disk headers but you'd need to know exactly what was configured earlier... not many people know how to use those diags either..
What I recommend is looking at the
strings /etc/lvmtab
output now and determining what vg is lost and the output of
cat /etc/fstab to determine what file systems are lost
and get out the backups.
The only idea I have of why it's all gone horribly wrong is
1> Firmware/Patch
2> Somebody deleted the LUNs
via GridManager Connecting to the RS232.
3> ?
I suggest powering off, waiting 1 minute, and then powering on the array first.
Then when the array is back up:
ioscan -f
top
(wait for the ioscan to finish)
ioscan -fnkC disk | grep C2
hopefully your LUNs will come back although I doubt it.
Call HP Support and get a qualified CE on site to see what he can do.

Re: Disk Array
You have an option to configure Write cache from Gridmanager.
Heres a Nike links:

Re: Disk Array
DGC C2300WDR5
^^^^^^ R5
12 Disk RAID 5 is not a great idea on a Nike20
try a five disk raid five.
The NO_HW is not a problem now as there is no LUN 1
The Lun 0 shows up claimed as it should.
When the R5 lun is built,
Enable Caching from the
GridM> Controller Changes
You may need to enter into FE mode..
Ctrl P then hold Shift FE enter at the presentation screen.
Enable caching on the lun, make sure that when you bound the LUN that you selected caching for the LUN too.
It's off by default.
After this is done, Reset the Controller from the Controller Changes menu
(not sure if it'll be possible with your f/w - if not, just reset the OTHER SP... ie power cycle it.)
Any caching changes are not taken into account unless the TWO SPs are reset. The config (and firmware lives on the disks)
Now, from your ioscan output,
I only see ONE SP.
The one on
8/4.0
(this is a K ?)
The other one I presume is on the same bus?
I don't see it in the ioscan:
You cabling looks like?
see diag attached

Re: Disk Array
It will explain the fault.
Do the same on SPB via Gridmanager too.
