Have I reached the limits?

I have a problem with installing Netware 5.1 on a Proliant 570 with a 6400 raid controller that contains 9 x 146 Gb drives. I can use the smart start and create a raid 5 volume that is about 1.2 terabytes in size. The problem is a Novell issue where during the installation it can not understand that size of drive and will not let me create a sys volume. If I cancel the installation and manually create the volume its works. Unfortunately when I run the installation again it will delete any existing volumes unless I do an upgrade. I have searched Novellâ s web site and put a note on Novellâ s forum without much luck.

I had an idea. Create an Array with all the disks and create volume that is about 500 Gb in size. Install Netware 5.1 and then go back into the raid configuration and add the free space to the existing volume. Everything worked except when I tried to add the free space to the existing volume. It will only let me extend the size to about 514 Gb in size and I am left with about 680 Gb as free space. Is there a limitation on the maximum size a volume can be extended?

I have found a solution. I read Jeremy Wilhelm post. I had to create a volume greater than 502 Gb before I could extend the volume size. What I would like to know is if I have a 502 Gb raid volume how can I extend it with deleting it and recreating it?
