how to flush write cache on smart array contoller 53xx, 64xx with battery

szenario: we have connected external storages to SA 5300, SA 5312 and SA 6400 with battery write cache. We are using linux as os. For some reason we will put off the external storage. We are not sure, whether the command unmount or sync will write the cached data from SA's to disk. If this wouldn't work, could anybody give hints?
