Hi People,
On my existing HP DL 385 G7 Server I'm trying to add one more rack with one more HP Storage D2700 Disk Enclosure (AJ941A) which already has 4 connected with P411.
See below:
4x Storage Works D2700 Disk Enclosure (AJ941A)
So can I just buy one more HP Storage D2700 Disk Enclosure (AJ941A) populated with 1 TB HDD and then 2x SCSI cable conencted to the empty ports on the 4th Rack as the picture above ?
Solved! Go to Solution.

SolutionHey,
this is how I did it with D2600. Unfortunately with the D2700 it looks like 4 is the max :/
From http://www8.hp.com/h20195/v2/GetPDF.aspx/c04111697.pdf :
Grow storage capacity easily by attaching up to two D2700 enclosures from a single Controller port, for expansion of up to 4 enclosures or 100 drives, allowing for room to grow as storage demands increase. (Smart Array Controllers P411 & P812)
The cables are SAS (serial attached scsi) which are quite different than SCSI.

Re: HP Storage D2700 Disk Enclosure (AJ941A) stacking help ?
@Johan Guldmyr, Lucky that I ask you.
So how can I add the fifth enclosure to my server here ? in the screenshot above the photo is turned sideways.
Here's what I can see from my SMH page:
Smart Array P410i In Slot 0 (Embedded Slot)
Storage Boxes
Port 4C Box 1R
Port 2C Box 2
Smart Array P411 In Slot 2
Storage Boxes
Port 1E,2E Box 1
Smart Array P411 In Slot 3
Storage Boxes
Port 1E,2E Box 1
Port 1E,2E Box 2
Port 1E,2E Box 3
Port 1E,2E Box 4
Do I have to buy another Smart Array P411 card to enable the fifth enclosure to my configuration above ?
Many thanks for the reply.

Hey, looks like you've got some other thread open about this.
Hope it works out for you!

@Johan Guldmyr With your D2600 does it capable of stacking the DAE more than 4 using the daisy chained method ?

Re: HP Storage D2700 Disk Enclosure (AJ941A) stacking help ?
@Johan Guldmyr, Cool, so in my case here I suppose I can just buy 2x SAS cable and the D2600 / D2700 enclosure then continue stacking on the the last shelf ?
The cable can then be connected from the last shelf to the new shelf accordingly.

Re: HP Storage D2700 Disk Enclosure (AJ941A) stacking help ?
As I wrote it looks like behind one P411 you can only put 4 D2700 but 8 D2600. So no I don't think that will work.
Do you have both P411 controllers connected to all four shelves? Or is one of them only connected to one?

Re: HP Storage D2700 Disk Enclosure (AJ941A) stacking help ?
Hi @Johan Guldmyr Here's the configuration:
Smart Array P410i In Slot 0 (Embedded Slot) [Front disk on the DL 385 G7 server]
Storage Boxes
Port 4C Box 1R
Port 2C Box 2
Smart Array P411 In Slot 2 [D2600]
Storage Boxes
Port 1E,2E Box 1
Smart Array P411 In Slot 3 [D2700]
Storage Boxes
Port 1E,2E Box 1
Port 1E,2E Box 2
Port 1E,2E Box 3
Port 1E,2E Box 4
So I can see that, there is one AJ940A - HP StorageWorks D2600 Disk Enclosure connected to Smart Array P411 In Slot 2, Does this means I can just connect the 2x SAS cable on top of this enclosure ?

Re: HP Storage D2700 Disk Enclosure (AJ941A) stacking help ?
@Johan Guldmyr OK, based on the D2000 Quick Specs http://www8.hp.com/h20195/v2/getpdf.aspx/c04111697.pdf?ver=45 on page #4
I can only add 3x more D2600 enclosures.
Thanks for the clarification
