WWPN term stands for word wide port name and world wide node name (WWNN) are unique identifier used in Storage area networking. Each Host Bus adapters (HBA) in fiber channel networking has unique world wide name (WWN) which is 8 bytes long address similar to unique Mac (media access control) address used in Ethernet networking.

WWN is generic and does not exactly specify whether WWPN or WWNN are meant.
Using WWNs in zones does not automatically mean that the switches use "soft zoning" (= name server queries). Many modern switches can translate this into a more restricted form of zoning.
