ML350 RAID 5 Linux re-install upgrade

I have a ML350 with SCSI attached disk storage running RAID5 and Redhat Linux 4. I had 3 arrays configured and mounted via devices in fstab.
I re-installed the OS to Redhat 5. The new OS sees the devices but not the partitions or data on the devices. I thought hardware arrays were treated like individual disk devices. Why can't I just re-mount the arrays like they were formatted disks?
