Move of Raid5 to new server with new Raid-Controller
Hi,
is it possible to move a Raid5 from a Server (DL580, SA 5304, W2K Advanced Server) to another (DL380G4, SA6404, W2K3) without loss of data or will the Raid be destroyd after the move? OS is on a separate Raid on a separate Controller, on the old and on the new Server (on internal disks, Raid5 is on an enclosure.
Thanks in advance
Oliver

Re: Move of Raid5 to new server with new Raid-Controller
Oliver,
if you move the cable from the old server to the new server, at bootup the raid controller will read the raid5 configuration
from the disks and copy it into the controllers nvram and the data will be available to you in Windows.
From a pure H/W perspective this works fine, from the OS perspective and filesystem (NTFS) their might eventual be things to verify/update with a move from w2k to w2k3,pls consult the Windows forum for that.
As with every such operation, you should always make sure you have a backup before the move.

Re: Move of Raid5 to new server with new Raid-Controller
Hi Oliver!
No! There should not be any problems...
The Sa6404 will read the arayconfiguration from the disks...
If youre planning to move the arraycontroller with the disks you need to load the driver for SA5304
regards
Dragomir
