MSA 2000 - adding more disks

Couple of questions regarding MSA 2312fc. We want to add some more disk in however the new disk is 500GB whereas the existing disk is 300Gb. Is it possible to have different size disks in the same vdisk? Whats the impact?

Also our vdisk is raid 5. how is this implemented across the disks in the vdisk? i.e. 3+1 or across the whole vdisk?

many thanks

Re: MSA 2000 - adding more disks

It is possible to have different size disks in the same vdisk, but the smallest of the disks sets the limit and the additional capacity in the larger sized disks goes unused. To best utilize disk capacity, use same sized disks for a vdisk.

Are you asking about the parity distribution? If yes, parity data is distributed across all the disks in the vdisk.
